Black Women Elevate Empowerment weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Celebrating Black Women Elevate Empowerment at the Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Expo on Saturday.

To honor Women’s History Month, Black women from the Rochester area gathered to learn about economic empowerment and entrepreneurship opportunities at the expo. The hope was to build women’s networks and support each other.

D.r Burrows, the CEO of Legacy Drama House and founder of the expo said, “One of the things I always say is that there’s so much talent in communities of color but there’s a lack of resources and we know those lack of resources is due to systemic and institutionalized racism. And so events like this is to kind of close that gap and dismantle some of those things so that we can work more collaboratively vs competitively.”

Dr. Burrows announced the winner for the 2024 Legacy Changemaker Award which is given to a Black woman business owner each year who makes an impact on the community.
