City offices close, R-Centers open during Total Solar Eclipse

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — All city buildings will be closed on the day of the Total Solar Eclipse, according to the City of Rochester.

In April the following city buildings will be closed for the entire day due to the eclipse:

City Hall

Neighborhood Service Centers.

Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services offices.

City Branch libraries and the Central Library.

Animal Services shelter.

Traffic Violations Agency Office.

Parking and Municipal Code Violations Bureau Office.

Rochester police prepare for influx of solar eclipse traffic, outlines intersections as area of focus

Riverside and Mt. Hope cemeteries will be closed on April 8, but morning internment will be provided for religions that need burial or cremation. The Cobbs Hill Reservoir is closed for vehicle traffic but open for pedestrians.

The city says that commercial and residential refuse and recycling will still happen as scheduled. The Public Safety Building and the Impound Lot will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The following R-Centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will host events from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Adams Street R-Center

Avenue D R-Center

Hope R-Center on Campbell Street

Carter Street R-Center

Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center on North Clinton Avenue

David F. Gantt R-Center on North Street

Edgerton R-Center on Backus Street

Willie W. Lightfoot R-Center on Flint Street

Frederick Douglass R-Center on South Avenue

Thomas P. Ryan R-Center on Webster Avenue.

KOA in Canandaigua is at full capacity for solar eclipse

The city is reminding all residents to “Be Aware, Be Prepared, and Be There” ahead of the Total Solar Eclipse. They are encouraging all residents to get Eclipse glasses, plan for traffic, and head to a local area to view the event.
