ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Closing arguments are being heard in the trial of Troy Parker, a man accused of killing a woman by lighting her on fire.

The defense began by showing the jury pictures from surveillance clips of Parker and another individual on the night of April 11, 2022. The defense argues that the individual blamed the defendant to get out of trouble with the police.

They also said that there were credibility issues with one of the witnesses, a lack of evidence, and the protection failed to test the victim’s DNA.

Parker pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder after he was accused of setting 38-year-old Fantasia Stone on fire inside a Jefferson Avenue apartment. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Parker doused Stone with an accelerant before lighting her on fire. The family of Parker and the DA’s Office confirmed he and Stone were acquainted before the incident.

Parker was arrested following the fire and he was initially charged with second-degree murder and second-degree arson.
