ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for assault and larceny on Wednesday, which led to one deputy getting injured.

Deputies were sent to the Perinton Wegmans just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday for reports of larceny involving an individual who left the store without paying for merchandise. Deputies said they got a description of the suspect, set up a perimeter, and found the suspect on Swan Trail.

MCSO said the suspect ran away, but they eventually caught him and in the effort, a deputy received an eye injury. That deputy received medical treatment and was released.

Deputies identified the suspect as 32-year-old William Cook of Newark, who has an outstanding warrant from the New York State Police for criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.

Cook was arrested and charged with assault in the second degree, resisting arrest, and petit larceny. He was arraigned in Perinton Town Court and sent to Monroe County Jail on bail.
