The Eagles rallied late as Zymier Jackson’s touchdown pass to Ervin Wiggins with five seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner.
In front of a homecoming crowd, Canandaigua’s Jack Tanoory returned the opening kickoff 85 yards to the house for the first score of the game. However, East would respond with three touchdowns in the first half to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.
On the opening drive of the second half, East settled for a 37-yard field goal to push the lead to 17. But Canandaigua turned up the heat from there.
Trey Comella scored Canandaigua’s first offensive touchdown of the game with 39 seconds remaining in the third quarter to make it 24-13. Then, Canandaigua quarterback Drew Williamee called his own number to score another touchdown and cut the deficit to 24-19 with 5:46 left in the game.
Just seven seconds later, Canandaigua’s Mason Depew recovered an East fumble setting them up with great field position. Later on the drive, Williamee connected with Tanoory on a pitch and catch to re-take the lead with 2:03 left in the game.
On the ensuing drive, the Eagles drove the length of the field and Jackson hit Wiggins from nine yards out for the game-winning score.
Jackson had 301 yards passing while Wiggins finished with seven catches for 84 yards and two scores. Comella had 178 rushing yards for Canandaigua.
East/WOIS (4-0) will host Arcadia next Friday, September 29th. Canandaigua (2-2) will look to turn things around at Athena on Saturday, September 30th.
Adam Ruffalo did it all for a shorthanded Blue Devil squad to keep Victor undefeated.
Ruffalo threw a 57-yard touchdown late in the first half to break a 7-7 tie, then caught the game-winning touchdown from 75 yards out in the fourth quarter. He also blocked a punt on special teams and made 18 tackles on defense. He finished with eight catches for 108 yards as a receiver.
The Blue Devils were playing without senior quarterback Jacob Loughlin. Freshman QB Eric Torres III had an impressive start in relief, completing 10 of 14 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Ruffalo’s passing touchdown went to Ryan Fronczak. Dre Yeomas had Victor’s first touchdown of the game on the ground.
Gavin Parks had 113 yards on 28 carries with a rushing touchdown for Brighton. Wesley Sturrup had 38 rushing yards and a touchdown. Sturrup left the game with an injury in the fourth quarter and had to leave the field in an ambulance. The Varisty Media broadcast of the game stated that Sturrup was responsive on the field and that the ambulance was a precautionary measure.
Victor (4-0) will head back home next Friday night to host Irondequoit. Brighton (2-2) will try and get back on track as they travel to Thomas on the same evening.
The Warriors extended their winning streak over their crosstown rivals to five with an impressive win Friday night.
Just three plays into the contest, Schroeder’s Gavin Horton returned an interception to the house to put the Warriors up 7-0. Later in the first, Anthony DeRosa ran it in from 25 yards out to extend the lead to 14.
Thomas responded in the second quarter on a 45-yard touchdown run from Levi Kulik. Andrew Hilfiker tossed his first touchdown pass in the second quarter connecting with Tyler Washington from 22 yards out to make it 21-7 at the half.
Late in the third, Hilfiker found DeRosa up the right sideline on a wheel route to make it 28-7 and put the game out of reach. Jack Simpson and Kalin Watkins both scored rushing touchdowns in the final frame for Schroeder.
Schroeder (3-1) will take on Hilton in a rematch of last year’s Class A1 sectional title game on Friday, September 29th. Thomas (2-2) will look to get back above .500 the same night at home against Brighton.
Robert Lowry had another stellar day for the Cadets, as he ran for 112 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns to keep Hilton undefeated.
Colton Thorp accounted for the other two scores for the Cadets, starting the game with a 39-yard touchdown to Luke Lockhart. He closed the game with a 15-yard touchdown run. Thorp finished with 165 passing yards and 70 rushing yards.
Lowry also got it done defensively, registering a late interception to ice the game.
Adam Schembri connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Coughlin in the second quarter for Penfield’s only score. Schembri also had an impressive game on defense as he registered three interceptions.
Hilton (4-0) will travel to Schroeder on Friday, September 29th for a rematch of last year’s Class A1 championship game. The Cadets won 40-7 in a driving rainstorm to win their first sectional championship since 1994. Hilton is playing in Class AA this season.
Penfield (1-3) will travel to undefeated McQuaid on the same evening.
The Griffins notched their first shutout of the season with a dominant road win over the Panthers.
Midway through the first quarter, Juelz Russell took back a 70-yard pick for the first score of the game. On the first snap of the second frame, C.J. Robinson scored a short rushing touchdown to push the lead to 14-0 and UPrep never looked back from there.
Robinson finished with 119 yards on 15 carries while Russell had three catches for 45 yards on offense. Junior quarterback Tavion Byrd had 197 total yards and two touchdowns. Tyrell Simmons had seven receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.
Taivon Wilson and Jaylen Singleton had 11 tackles a piece while Kamari Miller had 29 rushing yards and a touchdown.
UPrep (4-0) will host Fairport next Saturday, September 30th. Pittsford will look to get back on track against Edison on the same day.
Tony Piazza ran for four touchdowns as the Oatkan Knights stayed undefeated with an impressive win over the Bombers.
Piazza had three of his touchdowns in the second half, including a 65-yard score on the second play of the third quarter.
The Knights led 36-18 after Piazza’s long touchdown run, but the Bombers fought back as Ben Newman through a touchdown to both Cadearrel Sneed Jr. and Noah Mather to make the score 42-34.
However, Piazza completed a 51-yard drive with his fourth touchdown of the day to push the lead back to two scores. The game was called with 7:53 minutes remaining in the game due to a medical issue with an East Rochester/Gananda player.
Jackson Fix ran for two touchdowns for Le Roy, with Thomas Condidorio passing for a 70-yard touchdown to Adrian Stephens for Le Roy’s lone score through the air.
Newman threw three touchdowns for the Bombers and ran for two more. Miles Caviness caught Newman’s first passing touchdown of the game.
Le Roy (4-0) will host fellow unbeaten Attica/Alexander next week on Friday, September 29th. East Rochester/Gananda will look to get back on track as they head out to Livonia on Saturday, September 30th.

Just 88 seconds into the game, Derrion Battle punched in a short touchdown run to give Aquinas a 7-0 lead. Midway through the second quarter, Battle scored from one yard out to make it a 14-0 game into the break.
Fairport would finally respond in the third quarter after a three-yard touchdown run from Gavin Illingworth which made it 14-6.
Facing 4th and 5, Aquinas freshman signal caller Trent Buttles found Gaetano Auriuso in the flat for a 40-yard to push the lead back up to a two-score game.
Battle and Auriuso both added short touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.
Aquinas (2-2) will look to stay in the win column next weekend when they host Rush-Henrietta on Saturday, September 30th. Fairport (1-3) will face a stiff test the same day against UPrep at the Rochester Community Sports Complex.
The Cougars grabbed their second win in a row after going on the road and taking down Vertus.
Senior running back Ben Cook had a rushing and receiving touchdown in the first quarter to help lead his team to victory. The Cougars scored on two of their first three plays from scrimmage.
Honeoye Falls-Lima (3-1) will play host to Geneva next Saturday, September 30th. Vertus (1-3) will hit the road and take on Batavia on Friday, September 29th.
