ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — At Tuesday’s Monroe County Legislature meeting, Julie Cianca was reappointed as Monroe County Public Defender.

The move came after years of delays due to legal issues.

The public defender has a huge job, running the office that provides legal counsel for those who can’t afford a attorney.

Last year, a group of legislators met and approved Julie Cianca as public defender. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello swore her in. But then-County Legislature President Sabrina LaMar sued, calling the meeting and vote illegal.

Cianca’s new term immediately went into effect and ends in December of next year.
