Man will be sentenced after pleading guilty to corner store rape

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The man who pleaded guilty to rape in a corner store will be sentenced Wednesday.

According to police, a minor went into a corner store on Central Park across from School 25 when two employees locked her in the store and raped her. Shadad Algaithy was one of two store clerks who were arrested.

During the arrest, officers said they also recovered a loaded handgun stolen from Ohio and five pounds of marijuana. They also said there may be more victims.

Algaithy, who was a registered sex offender due to a conviction in 2021, was initially charged with first-degree rape, second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal possession of cannabis, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and unlawful imprisonment.

Algaithy ended up pleading guilty to rape and weapon charges and will be sentenced Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The case against the other store clerk, James Hampton, is still pending.
