Newark man arrested for arson after apartment fire

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Newark man was arrested on Monday for arson after a fire on Prospect Street, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

It was alleged that Edwin Williams, 44, set his girlfriend’s downstairs apartment on fire while people were still inside the upstairs apartment. The Newark Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish the fire and no injuries were reported.

Williams was arrested and charged with second-degree arson. He was taken to the Wayne County Jail and was arraigned in Wayne County CAPS Court Monday evening.
