ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office announced the launch of Prepared Live in its 911 dispatch center.

Prepared Live is software that the 911 center can use to live stream video in real-time. Here’s how it works: a dispatcher would ask the caller permission to live-stream during the call. If the caller accepts, that caller would be given a live-stream link, which would allow them to stream video for the 911 center.

Livingston, Genesee County awarded funds to improve emergency communication

Officials clarify for callers that this service would not give the center access to the contents or settings of a phone. Dispatchers were properly trained to ensure that they would be able to properly utilize the software.

According to the county, Prepared Live has helped over 35 million citizens across the country and Ontario County is one of the first to use Public Safety Answering Points to offer this software.

The Ontario County 911 Center will begin utilizing the software on Monday, March 4, 2024.
