Penn Yan student representing Finger Lakes as regional spelling bee champion

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Penn Yan Central School District 8th grader is heading to Maryland to compete for the honor of national spelling champion.

Ryan Creary will be representing the Wayne-Finger Lakes region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Ryan spelled “facile” correctly in the eighth round over the weekend.

He’ll head to Baltimore next month to compete against 200 other spellers for a chance at the Scripps Cup and $50,000.

Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is a regional partner for the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
