ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services (REVS) is preparing to open its doors Thursday evening, which will bring critical care for pets back to our community.

The clinic will be housed inside the Animal Hospital of Rochester on University Avenue. News 8 spoke with one of the lead veterinarians behind the project, Dr. Brenda Buck, who says the facility is highly staffed and will offer about five paraprofessionals for one doctor at a time.

REVS will run overnights during weekdays from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and will offer 24-hour care on weekends, beginning Fridays at 7 p.m. until Mondays at 7 a.m.

The only emergency vet hospital in our area, VSES in Brighton, closed back in November. A team of doctors, including Dr. Buck, joined together immediately to help bring services back to the area.

She emphasizes patience from the community, as demand is expected to be high.

“We’re trying to really get people to understand this isn’t the veterinary service that was open at VSES. We don’t have multiple doctors on at a time. We don’t have a full-time, 15-plus doctor staff. We are really trying to meet that critical need with the goal of growing it into that 24-hour care with multiple doctors on, and eventually out of this location. We’re going to get there. We’re going to grow, but we’re really asking the public to please be patient with us and understand if we can’t see your pet, it’s because we’re already over capacity at what one doctor can handle,” said Dr. Buck.

The clinic opens Thursday with its first overnight shift starting at 7 p.m. A ribbon-cutting event will be held at the facility this Friday. Since the clinic is a nonprofit, donations are still welcome on its website.
