ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A big addition could be coming to the Rochester Public Market.
The City is taking requests for proposals for a new build on the Union St. side of the market.

Director of the market, Jim Farr, says they are looking to add more space for retail and business, especially for businesses that are looking to expand.

This proposed new public-private development could be a total of 11,000 square feet, with probable sections with the build in the 300 – 800 sq. ft. range for retail. Farr even floated the possibility of housing on the upper levels.

Farr says proposals due February 12. Adding this long-time-coming addition could be very positive for the market.

“The more we can bring more activity every day, it helps everyone,” he said. “If we have storefronts that bring other customers to the market on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, I’ll help bring more vendors to the market on those days too.”

Farr expects the city to choose a developer about two weeks after that deadline, adding that an optimistic deadline for completion would be 2026.
