ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The Byron-Bergen boys basketball sectional title is not the only ‘first’ in Section V history, as their coach is believed to be the first woman in Section V history to lead a boys team to a sectional win.

Coach Roxanne Noeth was humble after the game, but understood the impact of the feat.

“It’s cool. I’m just happy we won. It’s amazing,” she added. “It’s really cool to break barriers like that. It’s just proof that you can do whatever you want.”

Noeth also was a player on the only other Byron-Bergen basketball title when the girls team won a sectional title in 1984.

Byron-Bergen will head to the Class C crossover round which will determine the Section V state representative. They will play Notre Dame-Batavia on Monday, March 4th with the winner taking on Lyons on Wednesday, March 6th.

Primetime 585 spoke with Noeth and the team after the win.
