ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The man arrested for a fatal drive-by shooting in Rochester pleaded guilty Friday.

Teodoro Rivera Jr., 26, was driving a stolen car on July 11 when prosecutors say he tried to shoot someone standing near a home on North Union Street. Instead he hit Sayyos Rios, who did not survive.

“The murder of Sayyos Rios was devastating to his friends and family,” Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said in a statement Friday. “Mr. Rios was a father and known as a friend to all, and he did not deserve to be killed in the defendant’s gunfire.”

Rivera was arrested in September. He pleaded guilty to murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors say he will be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for the murder, along with 15 years in prison plus five years post-release supervision for the weapons charge.
