ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — With the rise of islamophobia and antisemitism since October 7 one organization is hoping to spread some love.

The LoveGram campaign is a response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposal to dedicate $60 million to address the 400% increase of threats towards Jewish and Muslim people since the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7.

“While no one act is going to eliminate hate completely, we all have the power to do something small,” said Monica Gebell, executive director of the Levine Center to End Hate. Gebell tells News 8, the LoveGram is a reminder that you or your recipient are appreciated.

The Levine Center— part of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester— has partnered with St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center, Volunteers of America, and the Veterans Outreach Center to give the opportunity to send a Love Gram– which should arrive by Valentine’s Day

“Hate really comes from a place of dehumanization and bias and I think when we can rehumanize people and see one another for who we are and see the humanity in each other it revives a sense of responsibility,” said Gebell. “If we can spread that sort of sense around Rochester I think we can create that sense of humanity again.”

Today is the last day to send a LoveGram by snail mail and electronic notes— which look the same— can be ordered until February 11th at Endhateroc.org. Each love gram is $14.
